Biography

Dr. Symeon Papavassiliou is Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Before joining NTUA he was an Associate Professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), USA, while from 1995 till 1999 he was a Senior Technical Staff Member at AT&T Laboratories in New Jersey. Prof. Papavassiliou received the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the NTUA, Greece, in 1990 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York in 1992 and 1995 respectively.

Dr. Papavassiliou was awarded the Best Paper Award in INFOCOM'94, the AT&T Division Recognition and Achievement Award in 1997, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award in 2003. He was the Director of the Broadband, Mobile and Wireless Networking Laboratory (2000-2004), and the Associate Director of New Jersey Center for Wireless Networking and Internet Security (2002-2004). From 08/2006 to 08/2009 he served on the Board of the Greek National Regulatory Authority on Telecommunications and Posts. Dr. Papavassiliou has an established record of publications with more than 150 technical journal and conference published papers. His main research interests lie in the areas of mobile wireless networks, with emphasis on resource allocation and scheduling, sensor networks, ad-hoc networks, autonomic networks, and stochastic system and protocol performance evaluation.
